Hydrology

HydrologyHydrological services provided by DST for the mining industry consist of desktop studies, flow monitoring and the installation of hydrometric stations. The hydrology baseline data reports are completed and utilized throughout the development process to support eventual mine design, dam design and mine permitting. Prior to initiation of the fieldwork, DST will evaluate the proposed site infrastructure such as potential tailings areas, waste rock disposal and mill areas and will choose watershed locations that may be impacted by the proposed infrastructure. A detailed site reconnaissance will be completed as early as possible in conjunction with the spring freshet to evaluate locations that have been screened-in based on desktop hydrometric analysis. The exact field location for each of the hydrometric stations will be selected at locations where there is minimal channel scouring anticipated over the season and where the station will capture the maximum amount of runoff from each watershed without having backwater effects from lakes.
