Geochemistry

GeochemistryThe prediction of minesite drainage chemistry is an integral part of mine design and impact assessment. The quality of water draining from a mine must be shown to meet strict environmental regulations and water quality standards. Issues such as acid rock drainage (ARD) and metal leaching (ML) have the potential to produce severe impacts on the surrounding environment, potentially for perpetuity, and may impact the feasibility of a project. For this reason, effective prediction of minesite drainage chemistry will allow for proactive project design and decrease costs for mitigation or treatment. DST has years of experience providing ARD-ML assessments for mine development projects and mine closure plans.

DST’s Environmental Geochemistry Services include:

  • Mine drainage chemistry prediction
  • Water quality modelling for effluent and receiving water characterization
  • Field testing and monitoring
  • Mine water treatment options analysis
  • Development of site-specific mine closure plan based on ARD/ML prediction
  • Design of preventative or mitigative measures for mine design
