Habitat Assessments

blstDST conducts habitat assessments as part of a variety of natural science investigations. These may be undertaken to characterize the landform or general ecological community present, for the purposes of screening an area for species at risk or the presence of species of concern, or to facilitate future land use planning or remediation. Habitat assessments are often undertaken as the starting point for other natural science studies and investigations. These are conducted both through the usage of GIS tools and review of government database systems to evaluate the potential for a target species to occur in the area. Field investigations are also undertaken to characterize the area in detail. Habitat assessments support baseline studies, environment assessments, permit application, closure planning, and species at risk studies.
