Biological Data Collection

Biological Data CollectionDST provides the full range of biological data collection services to support natural science investigations, environmental impact assessment, environmental assessments, baseline studies, species at risk studies, fisheries studies, and any other biological data needs. Our biologist staff has experience working across Canada and can mobilize to any region across the country. We have extensive experience in remote and northern areas, and have conducted biological investigations in terrestrial, aquatic, and marine ecosystems. Our biology staff have thousands of hours of field experience and provide data collection services for the full range of biological taxa including birds, mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, plants, fungi, insects, and aquatic invertebrates. Data collection can range from simple absence/presence inventories to collection of body size, growth, age, sex, movement, health, population size, and breeding data. We also provide ecotoxicological data collection services. We specialize in delivering complex multispecies surveys over large scales and are experienced in specialized techniques including aerial mammal inventories, gill netting, trawling, fish larval sampling and identification, otolith ring counting, passive acoustic monitoring for bats, snake sampling, fish acoustic tagging, electrofishing, bird sonogram monitoring, mammal tagging, radio telemetry and others. Our team of senior scientists have published a wide range of biological studies in peer reviewed academic journals.
