Hazardous Materials Surveys, Abatement Specifications and Supervision, and Demolition Consulting
DST was retained by a municipality to conduct a Designated Substance and Hazardous Materials surveys of three buildings in advance of a planned major redevelopment of a municipal stadium property. Subsequent to the survey, DST was further retained to provide abatement consulting services the three buildings as well as demolition consulting for two of them.
DST completed a detailed room-by-room hazardous materials assessment for the three buildings, one of which included an arena which seats close to 10,000 people. The non-destructive survey program was completed while the buildings were occupied and in use. The results of the survey program were provided in three separate summary reports, each of which included a database of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). The database provided an outline of each ACM that included material description, location, friability, accessibility, quantity, and recommendations for management.
DST was also retained to prepare technical abatement specifications for the handling and disposal of the identified hazardous materials associated with the planned demolition of two of the buildings and extensive renovation of the arena building.
Following being awarded the contracts, DST provided consulting services throughout the abatement programs, which included attendance at progress meetings, review of contractor submittals, technical input to Requests for Information, milestone inspections, air monitoring to evaluate exposure to workers as well as the public, and abatement summary reporting. Hazardous materials abatement consulting primarily applied to the following: asbestos; lead; mould; mercury; and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
DST also provided technical input to building demolition, including review and comments to submitted Demolition Plans.Back
