To eliminate post construction settlement with minimal carbon emissions to the environment and accelerating consolidation process with wick drain and pre-load.
Our Role
DST was successful in identifying a cost-saving, ‘green’ ground improvement solution as the key to the economical use of an available brownfield site. We designed and implemented the ground improvement process by installing wick drains to accelerate the consolidation process. This allowed for deep drainage of the 20m clay deposit over only a few weeks by using prefabricated vertical wick drains. The required degree of consolidation was achieved, allowing the use of an economical slab-on-grade without the necessity of a deep foundation support system. Achievements: Completed settlement within three months, minimized carbon emissions and the savings on construction costs were in excess of one million dollars.
In addition this project won award of excellence from Consulting Engineers Ontario in 2010.
