DST Consulting Engineers Inc. has an immediate opening for a full time, permanent Environmental Technician based out of our Cranbrook, Ontario office. 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and performing field and office responsibilities including surveying & collection of field samples to support multi-disciplinary projects;
  • Performing hazardous materials surveys (asbestos, mould, lead etc.), abatement and remediation consulting, occupational exposure assessments and air monitoring, indoor air quality assessments, waste audits and environmental compliance audits;
  • Recording test data, preparing factual reports, summaries, data sheets or graphs for interpretation of test results by the Project Manager;
  • Consistently executing prescribed technical procedures, safe work practices and work plans while completing field work;
  • Developing Substance-Specific Exposure Control Programs;
  • Ensuring environmental management, planning and regulatory compliance;
  • Generating and assisting with preparation of deliverable documentation such as technical reports, summaries, data sheets, graphs, proposals and qualification packages;
  • Participating in project management meetings;
  • Handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy to maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external contacts;
  • Assisting with networking initiatives to develop new business and client relationships;
  • Remaining current with new advancements in the field; and
  • Coordinating and performing DOP testing of contractors equipment;
  • Coordinate and maintaining field equipment maintenance, charging and repairs;
  • Maintaining inventory and processing replenishment of field and office consumables;
  • Coordinating courier pickup/drop off;
  • Filing documents as needed and ensuring that the office filing system is maintained;
  • Preparing, formatting and binding proposals & final reports;
  • Preparation of reports in PDF format linked between each other for key clients;
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • University Degree or College Diploma in an environmental-related field of study preferred;
  • Understanding of and/or ability to learn provincial and federal regulatory requirements;
  • Ability to travel between worksites locally and within the region as required;
  • Possession of a valid Drivers license is required; and
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain security clearance required.

  • Strong listening and interpretation skills, ability to retain salient points and synthesize information on complex issues;
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Ability to establish work priorities and deadlines;
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently problem-solve and tackle new assignments;
  • Able to handle multi-tasking and maintain focus in a busy work place; and
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
