We are currently seeking an Hazardous Materials Technician to work out of our Edmonton, AB office.

Key Accountabilities/Activities

The Hazardous Materials Technician is responsible for completion of fieldwork related to multi-disciplinary infrastructure, geosciences, remediation, groundwater and soil related projects. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Designated Substances/Hazardous Materials Surveys;
  • Indoor Air Quality assessments and Air Quality Clearance sampling; 
  • Conduct site investigations: mould, asbestos, PCB’s, lead, mercury, etc.
  • Supervise abatement work of hazardous materials such as mould, asbestos, mercury, lead, etc.;
  • Coordinating, supervising and performing research and field responsibilities;
  • Analyze and interpret sample results in relation to industry accepted guidelines and legislative requirements;
  • Ensure health and safety and hygiene needs are addressed and met by liaising with clients and contractors;
  • Participating in project management meetings, office meetings, health and safety inspections;
  • Handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy to maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external contacts;
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships.


  • Undergraduate diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety/Industrial Hygiene is required;
  • 1-3 years’ experience;
  • Experience writing proposals, specifications, case studies, technical and non-technical reports required;
  • Solid understanding of provincial and federal regulatory requirements acquired through experience and education;
  • Working knowledge of environmental and health and safety legislation/guidelines;
  • Ability to travel to remote areas and for extended periods of time as required;
  • Possession of valid driver’s license required; and
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain security clearance required.

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently problem-solve and tackle new assignments;
  • Able to handle multi-tasking and maintain focus in a busy work place; and
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
