DST Consulting Engineers Inc.'s Technical Services Group has an immediate opening for a full time permanent Engineering Intern – EIT based out of our Kenora office. 


Key Accountabilities/Activities

Engineering Interns are responsible for assisting Senior and Intermediate Engineering staff in the implementation of multi-disciplinary infrastructure, geosciences, remediation, groundwater and soil related projects. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Fulfilling projects in one or more of the following areas;
    • Field and Laboratory testing related to aggregates (including grain size, proctor, moisture, hydrometer, etc.), soil compaction and concrete (air content, slump, strength).
    • Designated Substances/Hazardous Materials Surveys and Waste Audits; 
    • Environmental field projects including Phase I/II/III Environmental Site Assessments, Site Remediation, Specifications and Tender Documents, Site Supervision, Demolition Consulting, Fuel Tank Audit/Management/Remediation;
    • Pre-construction surveys, vibration monitoring and damage claim assessments; and
    • Infrastructure projects including bridges, roads, tunnels, rail, water, sewer, etc. 
  • Coordinating and performing field work;
  • Interacting with clients, regulators and subcontractors regularly including presenting and discussing outcomes with clients and project teams;
  • Developing and consistently executing prescribed technical procedures, safe work practises, and work plans while completing field work;
  • Generating deliverable documentation including technical reports, summaries, data sheets, graphs, proposals, and qualification packages;
  • Participating in project management meetings;
  • Ensuring technical quality of studies and project delivery;
  • Assisting with networking initiatives to develop new business and client relationships;
  • Remaining current with new advancements in the field;
  • Working in a safe, efficient manner in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements and contract specifications;
  • Remaining flexible to travel to various locations.



  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or similar) from a post-secondary institution;
  • 2-4 years experience in Geotechnical, project management and construction management background are assets;
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineering designation;
  • Solid understanding of provincial and federal regulatory requirements;
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and maps;
  • Strong understanding of construction activities; and
  • Valid provincial driver’s license required.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;
  • Proficient with use of Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to handle multi-tasking and maintain focus in a busy work place.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Must be available on occasion to work evenings and/or weekends to meet project needs. 
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently problem-solve and tackle new assignments;
  • This job is based in Waterloo but does, on occasion, require working at other locations throughout Southern and Northern Ontario for up to 1 week at a time.
