We are currently seeking Hazardous Materials Technician to work out of our office in North Bay, ON.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Perform Phased Environmental Site Assessments, including historical research, site inspections and soil and groundwater sampling programs;
  • Carry out surveys for Designated Substances and other Hazardous Materials;
  • Supervise and verify site remediation and tank removal activities;
  • Air quality monitoring; 
  • Preparation of field notes, data analysis and evaluation; 
  • Participate in technical report and proposal writing;
  • Participate in project meetings, office meetings, health and safety inspections; 
  • Maintaining a commitment to exceeding client expectations by consistently delivering high quality of work;
  • Consistently maintaining professionalism and objectivity while working with colleagues and clients who require varying degrees of support;
  • Handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy to maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external contacts; 
  • Develop and maintain client relationships. Conducting project administration tasks as required, including timesheet generation, organizing and filing, equipment calibration and maintenance and project invoicing; 
  • Travelling out of town for extended periods (2-4 weeks at a time) to fulfill fieldwork responsibilities; and  
  • Performing other related duties as required.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, Environmental Technology or an environmental-related field;
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant environmental assessment/field experience;
  • Member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT);
  • Working knowledge of both provincial and federal environmental regulations;
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills;
  • Proficient with use of MS Office;
  • Experience in supervising contractors on the worksite; 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to complete work within established timeframes;
  • Working familiarity with Ontario Regulation 153/05, remediation projects and excess soil management projects would be considered an asset.
