Current Research Areas
DST is active in Research and Development, especially in Geotechnical Engineering. Dr. Bo, Director (Geo-Services) is also a committee member of the Canadian Geotechnical Research Board.
DST is currently carrying out many research projects through the Industry Research Assistance program under the Canadian National Research Council. Other funding and research projects include collaborations with overseas tertiary institutions, such as the research grant won from the Australian Research Council or industrial research funds like the Smart Water Fund. Current research areas mainly focus on material testing, sustainable reuse of material in geotechnical engineering, construction and pavement engineering. Details of these research topics and funding are listed below:
Canadian National Research Council, Industrial Research Assistance Program
1. Experimental Study on Accelerated Consolidation, IRAP Grant (2009). Grant funds = C$29k.
Research Projects under Research Collaboration with Tertiary Institutions
1. Geotechnical characteristics of biosolids and their suitability as stabilized fill, Smart Water Fund Grant, (2007-2009). Grant funds = AUD$275k.
Arulrajah, Bo, Wilson, Evans and Lamborn.
2. Sustainable usage of dredged clay materials as land reclamation fills, ARC Linkage (2009-2011). Grant funds = AUD$103k (ARC funds = AUD$79k; Industry funds = AUD$24k).
