 Flood Response Minimize
DST personnel have been providing flood response consulting for decades.  Appropriate identification of water impacted building materials and required remediation actions are essential to limit the risk of mould development.  The source of the flood water as well as the composition of the flooded building materials both influence the selection of the appropriate remediation action.  Standards such as those developed by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) are typically referenced.  Other considerations include the potential presence of hazardous materials (e.g. asbestos within building materials) and the possibility of elevated concentrations of bacteria such as Legionella from standing water within sprinkler lines or fecal coliform from sewer backups.  In the event that mould is encountered and is suspected to pre-date the flood event, DST has the ability to time-date the mould growth.  This is of particular value to insurance providers.  Some of the methods and equipment used by DST to rapidly and accurately identify the extent of water damage and any associated health & safety risks include:

•    Hand held moisture meters (pin and pinless)
•    Infrared thermal imaging
•    Boroscope investigations, using small diameter holes or cracks to inspect cavities without requiring destructive cut-outs (popular for schools, health care environments, etc.)
•    Temperature and humidity readings

Whether the required scope of work consists of third party verification or full range inspection and remediation supervision, DST has the capability, resources, and expertise to meet any of your flood response needs.
