The Role DST Consulting Engineers Inc. has an opening for Senior Geotechnical Engineer Sector Head for a Winnipeg branch office, specifically with experience in geotechnical and geological engineering. Qualifications: - A degree in Civil Engineering and eligibility for registration with PEO and APEGM

Environmental Sector Head
DST Consulting Engineers Inc. has provided geo-environmental consulting services in Canada since 1971 and is one of the fastest growing consulting companies in Ontario. DST has an opening for a full-time Environmental Sector Head at our Edmonton and Kingston offices. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide management of the local operations of the Building Environments Sector and the Outdoor Environments Sector. The Building Environments Sector provides consulting services such as Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials Surveys, Asbestos Abatement Programs, Mould Investigations and Remediation, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Assessments, Waste Audits, Building Demolition Consulting, Environmental Site Assessments, and Environmental Compliance Audits. The Outdoor Environments Sector provides consulting services such as Environmental Site Assessments and Remediation, Hydrogeological Services, and Sediment Clean-up.
Within the Sector Head role, the successful applicant will build and manage a team of staff and report directly to corporate Sector Managers, who work within the Ottawa office. The Sector Head will be accountable for financial management, sales, human resources, marketing, and project management aspects of the group.
Key tasks and responsibilities of the position include the following:
Financial Performance
- Develop, implement, and meet annual budgets;
- Manage financial performance and accounts receivables;
- Review monthly financial performance;
- Personally approve proposals < $10,000.00 in value; and
- Approve requisitions for billable project expenditures < $50,000.00 in value.
Business Development
- Provide input into Sector Marketing Plan;
- Encourage Marketing by all staff within group;
- Ensure timely submission of accurate inter-sector invoices; and
- Co-operate with other Sectors as measured by:
- Marketing
- Writing Proposals
- Successful delivery of inter-sector projects; and
- Loaning/borrowing staff
Human Resources
- Conduct performance appraisals (minimum annually) for all members of your group;
- Perform day-to-day staff management, including approving expenses, timesheets, etc.
- Prepare Professional Development Plan for staff and ensure consistent and up-to-date staff training;
- Ensure staff are adequately instructed in Health & Safety Knowledge, Training and experience;
- Actively participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee, including annual procedures review;
- Recruit and retain quality staff and future leaders with voluntary turnover rates less than industry average; and
- Recruit and mentor your future successor.
Client Satisfaction
- Serve as the DST “Client Sponsor” for selected key clients;
- Ensure Customer Surveys are issued for completed projects; and
- Achieve a high level of Client satisfaction on Customer Surveys.
Skills and Attributes considered necessary for the position include the following:
- Leadership abilities;
- Interest in accounting/management side of consulting;
- Excellent communications skills (verbal and written);
- Minimum 4 year University degree, 3 year Community College diploma, or an equivalent level of experience;
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations;
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals;
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and the general public.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
- Working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing;
- Sound judgment; and
- Approachable.
